Basketball

Basketball is a multiplayer game and competitive game. A basketball game consists of two teams competing to score more points than the other team in a limited period. the team that scored the most points wins the game.

History

Basketball began in 1891. It was invented by “James Naismith” in USA. on or about December 1, 1891, at the International Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Training School (now Springfield College), Springfield, Massachusetts, where Naismith was an instructor in physical education Basketball first became an Olympics sport in 1936 ( Berlin Olympics). Basketball has been one of the most famous games of the last century.

Overview

A team advances the ball by dribbling and passing and attempts to score. A shot that does not go into the basket is
usually rebounded by a player. If that player is on offense, he/she can either shoot or set up another scoring opportunity. If the player who rebounds is on defense, he/she and their team advance the ball down count and try to set up their scoring opportunity. The player must throw the ball in within 5 seconds or it is turned over to the other team. To establish a legal position, the defender must have both feet on the floor, with the torso facing the opponent.

Playing regulations

Scoring: One point per successful free throw; two points per two points field goal; three points per three-point field goal.
Number of players: Five players per team

Length of game: 4 quarters of 10 minutes each with a 2-minute break between two quarters and 10 minutes. Interval after the second quarter.

Court: Length: 28 meters and width 15 meters.

Fouls

A foul occurs when a player or coach breaks a rule in a variety of ways. A player is disqualified and removed from a game after being assessed five fouls.

Specific fouls include the following:

  1. Away from the ball
  2. Fighting
  3. Blocking
  4. Hanging on the rim
  5. Delay game
  6. Offensive foul
  7. Elbow foul
  8. Player control
  9. Hand check
  10. Throwing the ball

Violations

It occurs when players break the rules in a way that does not involve contact. Violations include the following:

  • Back court violation
  • Double dribble
  • Kicking / Striking the ball
  • Out of bounds
  • 3 second, 5 second, 8 second, 24 second violations.

Basic Rules and Regulations

  1. Each team is allowed to have five players on the court.
  2. To win, you must outscore your opponent.
  3. Offensive is given 5 minutes to inbound the ball.
  4. The offense must advance the ball.
  5. The ball and ballhandler must stay inside the boundaries.
  6. Defenders are unable to block a shot that is traveling downhill.
  7. After three seconds, defenders must leave the paint.
  8. Each team has a certain amount of fouls.
  9. Illegal and excessive contact results in a foul.

Growth in Basketball

Basketball grew steadily in popularity and importance in the United States and internationally in the first
three decades after World War-2. Interest in the game deepened as a result of television exposure, but with the advent of cable Television, especially during the 1980s, the game’s popularity increased all over the world. Given a timely mix of spectacular players—such as Earvin Johnson, Julius Erving, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan and the greatly increased exposure, basketball became the favorite sport of the Americans, alongside such traditional leaders as basketball and football.
